Now that summer is in sight, however, it’s time to make the right financial moves to make your vacation dream a reality. Slowly but surely it’s time to save. If you’re still feeling a bit strapped for cash this year, consider a domestic summer trip!
In need of some inspiration? These top summer travel spots are definitely worth saving for without breaking the bank.
Miami, FL
If you’re in need of some spice in your life, plan a weekend trip to Miami. The warm weather, delicious cuisine and vibrant nightlife will leave you feeling energized. As an added bonus, summer is the offseason for Miami, so you’re more likely to score some good deals.
Seattle, WA
While this city is known in part for its soggy weather, the summer months are typically warm and sunny. Explore attractions like the Space Needle or take a boat ride to Puget Sound without having to carry an umbrella.
Bar Harbor, ME
Not only is Bar Harbor a charming coastal town, it’s also in proximity to Acadia National Park. Whether you’re in the mood to lounge on the beach, or to hike and explore a stunning National Park, Bar Harbor checks all the boxes.
Pawleys Island, SC
Getting a quality vacation doesn’t mean you have to leave the country, or even the state! Pawleys Island is a great getaway that will help you feel like you’re a million miles away from home. Enjoy the laid back lifestyle and take time to do activities like paddleboarding that you never find time to do at home.
The Grand Canyon National Park
This spectacular park is even more popular in the summertime since the North Rim opens up for the season in mid-May. This doubles the amount of Grand Canyon sights you can take in.
Mackinac Island, MI
After a couple humid summer months in Charleston, Mackinac island will feel like heaven on Earth. While the majority of the year is frigid in Northern Michigan, the gorgeous summer months prove to be worth the wait. You’ll also have a chance to take in the charm of simpler times, as cars have been banned from the island for over 100 years.
Ocean City, MD
If you’re looking for a classic beach vacation straight out of a movie, book your trip to Ocean City. Complete with old-school amusement parks and long stretches of the boardwalk, you’re sure to experience a healthy dose of nostalgia.
Yellowstone National Park
Trade the views of the Lowcountry for some mountain views and take a trip out west. Certain parts of Yellowstone close during the winter months, but during the summer you’ll have access to the entire park. While this spectacular park is amazing all year round, more events and programs take place over the summer.
Cape Cod, MA
For those of us in South Carolina who are used to oceans that feel more like bathwater, Cape Cod is a refreshing change. Warm-up on sunny beaches and then take a chilly dip in the Atlantic. In the evenings, explore the multitude of adorable beach towns from Wellfleet to Chatham.
Catalina Island, CA
Looking for a Mediterranean vacation without having an international travel budget? Take a trip to Catalina Island. You can access the island by ferry or helicopter and spend your day biking, hiking, and snorkeling.
