Bank of the Lowcountry was founded in 1988 by ten local business leaders in Walterboro, SC - the “front porch of the Lowcountry.” The bank opened its doors on May 1, 1989, under the original name of Bank of Walterboro as a community bank dedicated to providing customized financial products and services to the local community. Over the past 36 years, the bank has continued to provide highly personalized banking services to its customers, while expanding into new markets to take advantage of growth opportunities in fast-growing communities contiguous to the bank’s original footprint.


Bank of Walterboro officially changed its name to Bank of the Lowcountry in 2019 to broaden the bank's appeal to surrounding communities. The original mission of creating a bank to provide financial services to its local community has not changed. The bank's geographic footprint will continue to expand to provide opportunities for the company to grow and be successful while focusing on the original mission of being a financial service provider to the local community.

Bank of the Lowcountry Consolidates Walterboro Locations

February 20, 2024 – Bank of the Lowcountry announced the consolidation of its Forest Hills location into its Walterboro Main branch at 1100 N Jefferies Blvd as of March 29, 2024. Separated by just a mile, the bank’s Forest Hill location has existed alongside the Waterboro Main office to serve the community since 2003.


Bank of the Lowcountry Opens West Ashley Location

February 14, 2024 – Bank of the Lowcountry announced the opening of its newest full-service branch in West Ashley. Located at 1923 Sam Rittenberg Blvd, this expansion aims to bridge the gap between the existing Mt. Pleasant and Ravenel branches while providing community-focused and relationship-driven banking services to current and new customers.


Bank of the Lowcountry Celebrates Loan Production Office Opening

July 2023 - Bank of the Lowcountry, in tandem with the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce, celebrated the grand opening of their new Loan Production Office located in Beaufort, SC, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Employees, board directors, chamber members, clients, and community members were invited to enjoy refreshments, explore the new office, and meet the team.
